I LAY in bed later that night, staring at the ceiling. Marcus had never taken his jacket or beanie off, and I took that as a sign he hadn’t wanted to stay. I’ll admit I was a little disappointed. I wanted someone to… not celebrate with, but share in the excitement, even if it was a little premature. Great sex was a good way to burn off excess adrenaline. I had to admit, Marcus’s excitement was catching. While I counted the spots in the plaster, I thought about his offer and wondered how I was going to come up with an extra three-hundred quid. We couldn’t afford it, but we couldn’t afford not to do it either, so I knew I had to put my pride aside and accept the help.

I resolved myself to extra shifts at the club.

I fell asleep to the unpleasant thought that I still didn’t have Marcus’s phone number.
